Membership Benefits

Joining the Metropolitan Richmond Women’s Bar Association (“MRWBA”) will enhance your life as an attorney!  Members enjoy the camaraderie of fellow women attorneys from all facets of the legal practice.  We offer our members monthly luncheon programs, including at least two continuing legal education (“CLE”) programs, each for the member rate of just $20.  Outside of our regular luncheon programming, we offer a free Ethics CLE to help our members satisfy the Virginia State Bar’s annual CLE requirements.  Recently, we also developed a “Breakfast with Judges” program which gives our members an opportunity to interact with Judges outside of the courtroom, as well as a Lawyer Referral Directory to help members of the public find members of the MRWBA and who have expertise in various practice areas.  Our members have many opportunities for professional and personal growth by participating in one or more of our numerous working committees, the mentorship program, and public service projects.  So come make a difference in the MRWBA and your community! We look forward to having you and your input!

Committees:

Even if you cannot make the luncheons regularly, we have opportunities for you to participate in activities that will match your interests!

Get Involved:  Join one or more of our working committees:  Audit, Awards, CLE, Communications, Finance, Legislative, Membership, Mentorship, Programs, and Public Service.

Here is just a sampling of what some of our working committees do throughout the year:

Mentorship: Volunteer to mentor a young attorney (two years or less of practice experience), a local law student or new member of the MRWBA.

Legislative:  Help organize the annual Legislative Luncheon which hosts our State Senators and Delegates to speak about their sponsored bills and provide insider glimpses of what happened on the floor and in legislative committees during the most recent legislative session.

Membership:  Like what you see?  Invite your colleagues to join, help welcome new members at our luncheons, and assist with organizing events for all of our members to network and get to know each other a little better.

Public Service:  Sign up to volunteer for one of the many opportunities hosted by the Public Service Committee. Assist with the organization of public service opportunities for the MRWBA, the planning of the pro bono luncheon, updating and distribution of the Domestic Relations Pamphlet (DRP), and fundraising for the DRP, including the Wine, Women, and a Worthy Cause event.

Awards: Participate in the nomination process for the MRWBA’s annual Women of Achievement Award, assist in organizing the Holiday luncheon, at which the Women of Achievement Award is presented, and participate in the nomination of MRWBA members and projects for local bar awards.

Interested in our other working committees? Information about all of our committees is included in both the online and paper versions of the MRWBA’s membership application available on our website under the “Join or Renew” tab.

As you can see, whether you are a new or seasoned attorney, membership in the MRWBA will be a rewarding endeavor.  We all struggle to balance work and personal life, so why walk that tightrope alone?  Come join the MRWBA and experience an association that understands and offers a supportive atmosphere where you can develop friendships that will last a lifetime.

Hope to see you soon!
Michele Satterlund, Membership Chair
