Do You Know an Amazing Mentor?
The Phoebe P. Hall Mentorship Award was established by the Metro Richmond Women’s Bar Association in 2019 in memory of founding member Phoebe P. Hall to honor outstanding mentors. Phoebe had a career as a distinguished Virginia attorney and Rector of Virginia Commonwealth University. She was a pioneer in Virginia law when she co-founded Hall & Hall, PLC in 1969 with her late husband, Franklin P. Hall, former leader of the Virginia General Assembly, and was the winner of MRWBA’s Women of Achievement Award in 2006. She was inducted into the inaugural class of the Virginia Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame in 2018. Over the years she served as a mentor and friend to many young attorneys, and we are pleased to recognize her with the creation of this award. The inaugural Phoebe P. Hall Mentorship Award was posthumously awarded to its namesake in 2020.Blaire Hawkins O’Brien.
Nomination Deadline Extended for Woman of Achievement Award!
As we announced last fall, due to the pandemic the Awards program that we normally hold in December has been shifted to the spring. It is currently being planned for May 26th. We are hopeful that we will be able to hold some sort of hybrid in-person/virtual event at an outdoor location. Because of this shift, the nomination deadline for the Award has been extended to March 31st.
As our members know all too well, women lawyers often feel ‘invisible’ to firm, corporate and government leaders when it comes to being recognized for the work they do. To help us address this issue on a local level, each year the MRWBA Woman of Achievement Award recognizes a member who “exemplifies legal professionalism.” Our list of past honorees reads like a virtual Who’s Who of the Metro Richmond women's legal community, and we still need your help to find the 2020 Woman of Achievement!Blaire Hawkins O’Brien.
Virtual Bench-Bar Conference
The Richmond Metropolitan Area Local and Specialty Bar Associations are bringing together nine judges and nine clerks from each level of court in Chesterfield, Henrico and Richmond to provide you with the inside information on the newest changes and procedures for 2021 in all of the local courts. Bypass the confusion caused by the pandemic and get tips from the experts on scheduling cases, updated docket procedures, jury trial processes, planning for virtual trials, and everything else you need to know for an efficient, successful court practice. This is your “fast pass” to getting your case heard!
