        From the President

Entering into my last week as President of the MRWBA, I find myself reflecting on the past bar year and conducting my own sort of strategic plan review:  Did we accomplish the tasks we set for ourselves?  Did I meet my personal goals?  Do we feel proud of what we managed to do?  How can we help the organization thrive in the future?

Given the limiting circumstances of an enduring pandemic, including financial restraints and restrictions on gatherings, I think we should be pleased with the MRWBA’s successes.  We hosted several in-person socials and luncheon meetings, including a panel of women legislators, after a long hiatus. Our dedicated board members and administrator continued to meet regularly by Zoom and applied creativity and ingenuity to adapt to the current environment. We participated in a virtual Diversity Roundtable with local judges. Sponsors stepped up and helped balance the budget, so our financial situation feels more secure than it did this time last year.

As an ambitious person, like most of you, I feel there is so much more still to do. We long for more connectivity. Our budget could still use an infusion of funds (donations are welcome). And there are undiscovered opportunities to increase and celebrate the depth and diversity of our membership.

Our incoming President, Sherry Fox, and next year’s board are well equipped to continue striving toward and accomplishing the MRWBA’s objectives. I anticipate some sensational events and opportunities in the 2022-2023 bar year!

The future of our organization is bright.

        Mollie Barton
        MRWBA President
