MRWBA recently learned that one of our members, and former Board member, Jamie Allgood, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. Jamie is a member of the firm at Bowen Ten Long & Bal. We wanted to share the link to her Go Fund Me page with the membership in case you would like to donate. Register Now for MRWBA's Holiday Luncheon!

Mark your calendar for Friday, December 9th, as MRWBA takes some time to reconnect with friends and colleagues at the MRWBA's Holiday Luncheon. Complete details will be available soon.

      From the President

      Dear Members, Colleagues, and Friends,

Is it just me or does it feel like the last two months flew by? It’s November and judging by the displays in Target, Marshalls and virtually any store I go into, it might as well be the holidays already. Although retail stores are seemingly rushing us to the end of the year, I’d like to encourage us all to take some time to be present and to focus on our theme for the month which is fittingly “Gratitude.”

Gratitude can be a difficult thing to cultivate. But not in the way you might think I mean. I think we easily express gratitude to others for the things they do for us, but we find it difficult to show ourselves gratitude. We find it hard to thank ourselves for a job well done or for making it through something difficult or for just for waking up and finding the energy to do things that deep down we feel like skipping (morning workout anyone?). So, while I hope that you will use this season to express gratitude to those important people in your life, I hope you will also show yourself gratitude for all that you have accomplished, all that you do for others and for just being pretty awesome in general.

Here are this month’s book and podcast recommendations:

Mark your calendar for THREE events this month. First, we have a virtual lunch-in coming up that you do not want to miss. I know, I can hear you now: “I’m all zoom-ed out, I cannot take another zoom meeting/appointment/presentation” but I am telling you it will be worth it. Our speaker is Zafreen Farishta, a salary negotiation strategist and founder of The Pay We Deserve. If you want to learn a bit more about Zafreen before the luncheon, check her out on Instagram or TikTok. We also have our mentorship social this week, and our coffee meetup on the 17th! Hope to see all of you at one, if not all, of this month’s events.

      Sherry Fox
      MRWBA President

      The Pay We Deserve

Make plans to join MRWBA, virtually, on Monday, November 14th at 12:30 p.m. for a Virtual Lunch-In with Zafreen Farishta discussing how we can negotiate the salary that we deserve.

Farishta is a salary negotiation strategist and founder of The Pay We Deserve. Her work focuses on helping early to mid-career women negotiate their salaries. Zafreen's career spans the government, private, and start-up sectors, enabling her to expertly navigate negotiations in a variety of settings. She has led a number of successful negotiation trainings and 1:1 coaching sessions that have empowered women of all backgrounds to negotiate with confidence.

There is no fee for MRWBA members to register for this session (you must be logged in). The nonmember fee is $20.00.
