Our Committees

Audit Committee

Conducts an annual audit of the MRWBA's expenditures and accounts.

Awards Committee

Assist with the nominations for the MRWBA's Annual Woman of Achievement Award (awarded in May), the Phoebe Hall Mentorship Award, and participate in the nomination of MRWBA members and projects for local bar awards.

Communications Committee

Work with Administrator to create and distribute communications, including the newsletter and social media. 

Diversity and Inclusion Committee (Special Committee)

Works to increase the diversity and inclusiveness of the MRWBA membership and participation in Committees and the Board. Partners with other Committees as appropriate to further diversity and inclusion in all aspects of MRWBA's operations. 

Finance Committee

Review all bank reconciliation reports and assist in an annual audit of the Association's expenditures and accounts.

Judicial Candidate Endorsement Committee

When judicial vacancies occur in federal and state courts of interest to the membership (e.g., City of Richmond and Henrico, Hanover, and Chesterfield· counties, Eastern District of Virginia, Virginia appellate courts), the Committee shall endeavor to interview and review the background, experience and other qualifications of all candidates who express a willingness to be considered and to accept the endorsement if tendered.

LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE

Monitors legislative issues that have been identified as being of interest to our members and reports on those issues during and following the General Assembly session. Organizes and implements all aspects of the annual Legislative Luncheon each spring, which hosts our State Senators and Delegates to speak about their sponsored bills and provide insider glimpses of what happened on the floor and in legislative committees during the most recent legislative session. 

Membership Committee

Organizes membership recruitment initiatives, welcomes new members, plans social events and helps members become acquainted with MRWBA.

Mentorship Committee

Organizes the attorney-to-student and attorney-to-attorney mentoring program, including events to foster mentoring opportunities.

Programs Committee

Select speakers and arrange for their participation in programs for monthly luncheons. Submit appropriate programs for CLE Credit. Assist with the organization of additional member activities and programs.

PUBLIC SERVICE COMMITTEE

Organizes public service opportunities and informs members of organizations that provide civic and pro bono services.

Sponsorship Committee

Work with Programs, Mentorship and other committees as appropriate to secure sponsors for MRWBA programs and events.

Strategic Planning (Special Committee)

Works to help the Board and Committees develop and implement goals and tactics related to the Strategic Plan adopted by the Board of Directors in February 2021.
