      President's Message

I hope everyone is having a safe and fun summer. September will be here soon and we will be kicking off our programming for the 2021 - 2022 bar year.  We have revamped the schedule for this bar year to maximize the social and networking opportunities for MRWBA members, while minimizing travel time and time away from other priorities (family, work, etc.)

We are planning to hold luncheons in even-numbered months and schedule other events in the odd-numbered months, mixing up the times of day and locations. Below is a preliminary/tentative schedule, so please mark your calendars and stay tuned for more detailed information.

      • September, 2021— Fall Kickoff Social/ Membership Event  (date, time, and location TBD)
      • October 20, 2021 – Pro Bono Month Luncheon -- 12:30pm at Willow Oaks
      • November, 2021  -- Mentorship Social Event (date, time, and location TBD)
      • December 1, 2021 – Winter Holidays luncheon (this is an invite-your-staff or other guest event, but will not include the annual awards ceremony) -- 12:30pm at Willow Oaks
      • February 2, 2022– Diversity Forum Luncheon -- 12:30pm at Willow Oaks
      • March, 2022   - Women’s History Month Mentorship or Membership Social Event (date, time, and location TBD)
      • April 27, 2022 – Legislative Luncheon -- 12:00pm at Willow Oaks
      • May 25, 2022  -  Awards Celebration and Annual Business Meeting  - Willow Oaks (time TBD)

Board meetings will be held during lunch on the 2nd Friday of each month, varying between in-person and virtual meetings to reduce travel time.

Please note this schedule was optimistically developed when COVID seemed to be receding, so there may be some changes announced as we go.

I look forward to seeing you all soon and getting the new bar year off to a great start!

      Mollie

Last Call for Mentors! Update Your Member Profile!

If you are interested in serving as a mentor this year, or if you would like to have a mentor assigned to you, don't forget to take two or three minutes to log in, review and update your member profile.

      • Be sure to complete the Mentorship field so we know if you would like to be assigned, or serve as, a mentor this fall.
      • Make sure your preference to be included, or not, in the Lawyer Referral Directory is up to date as well as your LRD Practice Areas. (The practice areas also help us match you with a mentee who has related interests).
      • Finally, there have been some changes to the committee structure, so be sure to let us know your interest in Committee Involvement. Working with an MRWBA committee is a great way to build your network while supporting the profession.

If you have any questions, e-mail admin@mrwba.org.

In Case You Missed It - New Membership Category Added

When the Board held their retreat in June they voted to add a new membership category: Full Member, Public Service WorkerThe category is for any member who works in federal, state, local or tribal government organizations (including schools and the military), public child or family service agencies, 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, or tribal colleges or universities, and offers a reduced dues rate of $85 per year.

As with all of MRWBA's membership categories, it is possible to set up automatic renewals if you would like to do so.

If you are a Public Service worker, be sure to change your member category in your profile so that your renewal will be billed at the appropriate rate.
